Request For Reference Sites

We have today requested from Yorkshire Water a list of reference sites where they have built the same facility as they propose in Hemingbrough, once we have the locations we will post on the site so that members of the village can visit and make their own judgement.

  1. Does anyone know what the alternatives are to this proposed development?

Nobody really wants a sewage treatment plant; but we all create waste, and it has to be dealt with.
I am not convinced that this proposed development is the best solution available; but I would like to know what the alternatives are so that I can make an informed decision.

Assuming that increased capacity is required, if we manage to successfully oppose this treatment plant, what are the alternatives the treatment and disposal of sewage from Hemingbrough?

Where and how will it go?
    Existing facilty, or new facility?

Upgrading the currrent site is not an option to the best of my knowledge. Hence the proposal to build a new one next door to it.

    The choices -
    - Pump our sewage somewhere else for treatment
    - Build a new plant in another local location, or somewhere else entirely.

Either of these solutions are likely to require significant disturbance and require the installation of new pumping stations and sewers.

What is required is the best solution for all parties, in terms of impact upon the public; disturbance; smell; best use of natural resources; environmental considerations; cost; sustainable development, meeting standards and Directives...

  3. When question YWA informed me that there was no alternative and cost was the primary driver. All of your points above are valid; however, I would put the health of my children first over the cost. There is potential for increase of flies and vermin, and nauseating smells that will be generated by spills.
YWA has shown that they are only interested in cost and have no consideration for the local population. You can call me a NIMBY if you want, but, I am sure you will agree, placing this facility so near to houses, without assessing alternatives and identifying the true cost is arrogant and insulting to us, their customers.
